BrrChecker keeps growing – new regions, new features.
App 1.4.0: BrrLog – your session log with Apple Watch, plus wind for surf & kite
The update is on the App Store: the new BrrLog records every swim, dip and SUP session with the official water temperature of the station. Your Apple Watch leads the workout, the iPhone can stay on shore – the session lands in the log and in Apple Health automatically. Also new: wind for surf & kite at coastal spots – knots, gusts, onshore or offshore and the best window of the next 48 hours, fed straight into the BrrScore. Both are part of Pro. Meanwhile the data base grows to 13,000+ stations from 50+ sources – newly on board: the estuary sensor networks of NOAA's National Estuarine Research Reserves in the U.S.
App 1.3.0: Official water levels, transparent sources — the Watch goes independent
The big update is on the App Store: rivers now show their water level honestly classified — not against their own short-term average, but against the official long-term mean of each gauge, wherever authorities publish one (Switzerland, Germany, Slovenia — more to come). Also new is the source popup: one tap on the measurement line reveals agency, link, licence and measurement time — full transparency for every one of 12,000+ stations from around 50 sources in 80 countries. The Apple Watch app now fetches its readings on its own, keeping the complication up to date even without an iPhone nearby. Plus: an in-app changelog, expanded help and refined share cards.
Five digits: 10,000+ stations — from the Great Lakes to the Adriatic
BrrChecker just passed the 10,000 mark: the catalog now counts 10,011 stations from 48 official and open data sources in more than 60 countries — from the Great Lakes and both US coasts to alpine swimming lakes, the Mediterranean and the Adriatic. Newest additions: twelve lakes in South Tyrol with real measurements (Lago di Braies included), plus Croatia's rivers and salt lakes — Plitvice and Krka national parks among them. What started in late June with a single gauge on the Rhine has become a worldwide picture of water temperature, denser than ever. Thanks to every agency, institute and beach crew sharing data openly. And to you: check first, then swim.
Lower Austria: Danube, Kamp & co. — around 90 new river stations
The Hydrographic Service of Lower Austria has approved the use of its water temperatures: around 90 river stations updated every 15 minutes — the Danube from Ybbs to Thebnerstraßl plus the March, Thaya, Kamp, Traisen, Erlauf, Pielach and Schwarza. Austria now counts around 600 stations in the app.
Austria expansion: around 200 new measuring stations and 17 Carinthian lidos
The hydrographic services of Tyrol, Upper Austria and Salzburg now deliver water temperatures every 15 minutes — from the Inn, Danube and Salzach to Lake Achensee and Lake Zell. Also new in the catalogue: 17 lidos on eight Carinthian lakes, from Lake Wörthersee to Lake Weissensee, each with the live reading of the state measuring station on its lake.
App 1.2.6: polished options and a noticeably smoother experience
Every options group is now a sleek glass card, the detail page scrolls buttery smooth, and the engine room received performance care and bug fixes. Also fresh on board: seven official river measuring stations on the Moselle, Saar, Rhine, Lahn and Nahe with water temperatures every 10 minutes.
App 1.2.5: Lake Garda, pump foiling and the new Watch experience
Lake Garda has arrived — ten measuring points from Riva to Sirmione, plus 68 bathing lakes in Rhineland-Palatinate with blue-green algae warning levels. Pump foiling becomes the seventh sport with its own BrrScore, sports can now be picked and reordered freely, and on Apple Watch the Lock Screen, a configurable complication and the new detail page show the score around the display.
App 1.2.4: faster, smoother – and fair with heat warnings
A maintenance update just in time for the heatwave: the app launches faster and scrolls noticeably smoother. And official heat warnings no longer drag the bathing score down to 1 – the warning stays visible, your swim day stays rated.
Australia: For the first time, BrrChecker shows water temperatures south of the equator
Queensland is on board: 25 buoys from the Gold Coast via Brisbane and Townsville up to the Gulf of Carpentaria, plus the Coral Sea.
Czechia: 251 river measuring points
The Czech Hydrometeorological Institute measures the Vltava, Elbe, Sázava, Berounka and Morava – 251 spots across the country, with official readings instead of model estimates.
Denmark: measured, not modelled
29 stations of the Danish Meteorological Institute now deliver real measurements – Øresund, Kattegat, Skagerrak, the Limfjord and the Danish Baltic coast. Until now, Denmark was model data only.
App 1.2.3: wetsuit advice for every water temperature
The app now tells you honestly which wetsuit fits – separately for swimmers and board sports, with wind and air temperature factored in, plus a dedicated view for ice swimmers. Beach lidos and bathing spots on lakes and rivers now rate SUP and kayak too.
Spain: expanded to 306 measuring points
New: 15-minute readings from the Ebro river network (SAICA/MITECO) plus additional coastal spots – from the Canary Islands via Galicia to the Mediterranean coast.
Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: 435 official bathing sites
Water temperature and quality for the whole state – from the Baltic coast to the Mecklenburg Lake District.
Over 600 bathing sites from five German states
Hamburg, Berlin, Brandenburg, North Rhine-Westphalia and Schleswig-Holstein: official bathing waters with quality ratings, most with current water temperature.
France: over 2,000 coastal bathing sites
All official coastal bathing sites with current sea temperature – most with official quality ratings. Plus new shore spots on Lac d'Annecy and Lac du Bourget.
USA: Great Lakes and coasts strengthened
Around 200 official NOAA stations on the coasts and Great Lakes – real-time water temperature from buoys and gauges.
BrrScore – your swim day in one number
One honest number from 1 to 10, per activity – with a tap-to-see breakdown. New in version 1.2.0.
Saxony-Anhalt: 69 bathing lakes added
Official water temperature and water quality for Saxony-Anhalt's bathing lakes – including current blue-green-algae warnings.
Official blue-green-algae warnings
Where authorities issue a swim ban or warning, you see it instantly – and always for free.
More on the way: licensing requests for additional official measuring networks are under way – new regions will appear here as soon as they're approved.
